VM-50 Mask Lens Replacement Guide

In this post, I’ll show you how I replace the lenses of my VM-50 mask step by step. With just a few tools—a screwdriver, protected pliers, and the new lenses—I can safely disassemble the frame, remove the old lenses, and install the new ones. I explain what I look out for to ensure the inner silicone skirt is positioned correctly, how I snap the frame back into place, and why I always finish with a leak test. This way, my VM-50 mask stays reliable and ready for use at all times.

Instruction

Tools needed:

  • Screwdriver
  • Pliers with jaw protection (soft tape recommended)
  • New lenses

Step 1: Disasambley

  1. Insert the screwdriver into the notch at the bottom of the frame.
  2. Press the screwdriver slightly downwards and forwards at the same time.
  3. Carefully lift the frame until the clip releases.
  4. Slide the screwdriver sideways under the frame to release all retaining tabs.
  5. Turn the mask and repeat on the other side until the frame is free.
  6. Set the frame aside.

Step 2: Exchange the lenses

  1. Press the lenses gently from the bottom upwards with your fingers. The lenses may stick slightly to the silicone edge due to pressure.
  2. Ensure the inner silicone edge is properly seated in the mask body to maintain a tight seal.
  3. Carefully place the new lenses into the mask.
  4. Make sure the inner silicone edge is correctly positioned and fully surrounds the lens.

Step 3: Asambley

  1. Place the colored frame on top of the mask and press it in the center with your finger.
  2. Use the pliers to press the frame onto the mask body.
  3. Start at the top edge and press all retaining tabs back into their original positions until they click.
  4. Ensure all tabs on both sides are securely fastened.
  5. The frame should be flush with the mask body with no visible gaps.

Final checks

  • Gently pull on the silicone to confirm it is firmly seated and cannot be removed.
  • Perform a seal test to ensure airtightness.
